The Other Side of the Door

After a horrific car wreck where one of her kids drowns, Maria, played by Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead, Colony), learns of a ritual that can bring back the deceased so that she might say her goodbyes. But she’s fully warned to NOT OPEN the door to the ancient temple to view the departed loved one. Of course she doesn’t listen, but in most any other film she’d be terrified; here, she’s intensely inquisitive and annoyed that more than her kid came back through the portal she has breached. It’s touted as “psychological horror” but is probably better termed dumb-ass death-defying drudgery! Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under) is her bewildered husband who makes all the same mistakes that she made. Some eerie EC-ish crawling corpse scenes elevate this from the slag heap.
