Prepare to Get SOAKed and Like It
One of the most promising musical talents to emerge in the past five years is a boyish-looking Irish lass who calls herself SOAK. We were thoroughly enchanted by her prize-winning 2015 debut album, Before We Forgot How to Dream (released when she was just 18) and now we are giddy to share the news that her highly anticipated second LP, Grim Town, will see the light of day on April 26 via Rough Trade Records.
The now 22-year-old Bridie Monds-Watson describes Grim Town as “a dystopia that I’ve created in my brain: me on the inside, processed into a pretend location. The way I could wrap my head around a lot of what I was going through was to make it feel like something quite physical and real. Once I had the idea of the album being an actual location, exploring the dynamics of this town and what it would look or sound like felt like the right way to give my mental state a personality.”
The Derry native just wrapped up a hit-and-run tour of just four U.S. cities; she’s spending May galivanting across Europe, but hopefully a more extensive return visit to the States will take place after that.
