Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Or, Professor X’s school for gifted mutants if the headmistress was Mary Poppins! Tim Burton’s foray into the superhero-team genre has Jacob on a search for where his grandfather experienced all that became his bedtime stories: a world inhabited by invisible boys and girls lighter than air under the guidance of Miss Alma LeFey Peregrine, played by Eva Green. Using Abe (Terence Stamp)’s map of loop portals, Jake traipses through time and space back to 1943 where, frozen in the moment, special youngsters escape a WWII bombing by being frozen in place, and its up to Jake, following in his grandfather’s footsteps, to discover his own peculiarity to spare them their fate. Share’s common themes with Burton’s Big Fish along with elements that pay tribute to Jason & the Argonauts and MicMacs, its one of Burton’s better outings, using spook house locations and sunken ships.
