Happy Death Day 2U

When Happy Death Day came out a couple of years ago, I ignored it. The marketing led me to believe it was a bloodless, teenage whodunnit, which isn’t really my cup of tea. It is about a college student who is reliving her birthday over and over again as she gets murdered each night.  When I finally saw it, I really loved it and it turned out to be one of my favorite movies of that year. I have re-watched it many times since. So, I was excited for this sequel. And besides the diminished expectations I went in with on the first film, this one is really very much of the same formula that made the first one so much fun. You get all of the same characters, but different aspects of them – and in some cases, very different. Happy Death Day 2U picks up right where the first film left off, kind of. It goes down the scientific path to explain what happened to the group. Tree, Carter, Lori, Gregory and Danielle are all back at it, and this time, we get a deep dive on Carter’s roommate, Ryan. If you haven’t seen the first movie, you will not enjoy this one nearly as much as you should. I have a feeling that there is more of this franchise to come, and as long as they keep up the kicks, I am on board for the next one. It has the spirit of the Final Destination movies, which I also adore. Make sure you stay through the credits!!
