‘The Divergent Series: Allegiant’

The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Opening not long after the events in Insurgent, Jeanine has been deposed, replace by Four’s mom, Evelyn (Naomi Watts) who has immediately staged show trails for those remaining loyal to Jeanine. Tris decides to save her brother Caleb from execution, and she and Four go over the wall encircling Chicago to escape the barbaric bloodlust of the Factionless, only to head into the science-fictiony bio-dome of The Bureau of Genetic Welfare who salvage damaged children and re-educate them with the aid of a mind wiping gas. Meet the new boss which isn’t any better than all the other authoritarians. As Tris discovers, what’s happening is just as sinister as the home she left behind where kids are tested and assigned to serve in Factions such as warriors, intelligentsia and truth-bearers. After watching Maze Runner, Hunger Games and The 5th Wave, this third installment might appear more of the same but it has punch and stamina missing from most of these adolescent trilogies, and, this movie is more than the set up for Ascendant, the series conclusion.

[PG-13]
