The Witch

Due to theological differences, a puritan family is banished into the dense, shadowy forest surrounded by failed crops and strange animal behavior before family heirlooms go missing. On the verge of womanhood, their eldest overhears her parents plotting to force her into service to another family after she misplaces her infant sibling, claiming wolves stole the child. Part Hawthorne’s Young Goodman Brown and part Hammer Films’ Vampire Circus, Thomasin (Anna Taylor-Joy) is suspected of witchcraft as one by one, tragedy strikes her family. Pallid hopelessness builds a constant state of dread in every frame.
