The Shallows

A minimalist thriller centered on the elements air, water and fire separating life from death. Disillusioned med student Nancy, played by Blake Lively (The Age of Adeline), locates the secret beach her mom visited during pregnancy with every intention of surfing until sunset but realizes too late that she has paddled out into a Great White shark’s feeding grounds! Injured, alone and at the mercy of high tide which threatens to submerge her perch, it becomes a matching of minds, the shark circling to feed, Nancy trying not to bleed out before she can reach the shoreline 200 yards away. Captivating story, short on setup, that stresses how in nature all mankind has, to survive, is his brain. More The Old Man and the Sea than it is Jaws!
