The Edge of Seventeen
A perfectly normal girl copes with her splintered family life, a budding romance between her brother and her lifelong best friend, a less than stellar high school record and an unobtainable crush during her Junior year. Except for one attentive adult (her history teacher played by Woody Harrelson), it’s as though she has turned invisible except to the geeky classmate who makes student films. An odd-egg coming of age storyline that reminds me of The Last American Virgin and Project X, where introspection blooms into realization. Like Lester Bangs said, “you’ll meet them all again, on their slide back to mediocrity.” And hey, she hasn’t survived Senior year…
