The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

With an all-star cast featuring Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett (as Batman), Tiffany Haddish, Allison Brie, Nick Offerman, Maya Rudolf, Will Ferrell, Charlie Day, Will Forte, Jonah Hill (as Green Lantern), Channing Tatum (as Superman), and Jason Momoa (as Aquaman), The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is the ultimate (meta) self-aware crowd pleaser for young and old alike. It’s one of those rare movies that parents can take their kids to see and actually enjoy watching it themselves. What’s filled to the brim with endless corny jokes about seemingly nothing eventually produces a somewhat thoughtful plot that actually pulls at the heart strings. If you saw the first Lego Movie and enjoyed it, you’ll really love this one – it’s the same writers. Basically in this one, LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space arrive and start wrecking everything in Bricksburg (now Apocalypseburg). Chris Pratt’s Emmett character develops an alter ego (a Kurt Russell rip-off character with a drawn-on beard) that’s just hilarious (complete with intelligent/talking/time traveling dinosaurs); and there’s even a scene where the mother figure character steps on a Lego and compares it to the pain of childbirth! But get this…the plot all has to do with sharing your toys with your younger siblings and mixing different toy universes together (GROSS!)(but how nostalgic!).
